Be able to use feedback gained to inform the development and planning of an original audio-visual media product

After you have pitched your ideas you will be given feedback about them. This feedback will help inform your development of one of the proposed ideas.

From this you will need to produce a production plan, this must contain the following information:

  • dates and timescales, including product launch date
  • resources and equipment needed
  • personnel and activities
  • budget
  • relevant legal and ethical issues

Dates, timescales and launch dates

For this section you need to complete the grid that you have been sent. In this grid you need to map out when pre production, production and post production activities would happen as well as what equipment you need.

You should make sure that you take account of seasonal and calendar events when planning timescales and the launch date. When would it be released? What would it clash with? When is the best time to film if you plan on shooting on location?

Resources and equipment

Production companies rarely own their own equipment due to technological changes and cost. Most companies hire the kit. To help you create a realistic budget you should think about what kit you need and see how much it costs to hire. Here are some useful links to hire companies.

For a TV show you are likely to need 1-2 cameras at most and a range of lenses. You will also need to hire lights and cables, adaptors, monitors and other kit. A typical shoot will last about 1-2 weeks over a period of a month. It will vary from location and studio set ups. You will need to budget for studio time and also the cost of hiring real locations.

Personnel and activities

You need to highlight the key roles in the production of the TV episode. The best place to find out more of these roles is through the Creative Skill set website. http://creativeskillset.org You should copy and paste the key information about the job roles into your document.

Budget

You should also be realistic about the timescales and budget needed for making an episode of a long form TV series. Information on the cost of a Game of Thrones episode is here http://mic.com/articles/87169/here-s-how-much-it-costs-to-make-a-game-of-thrones-episode#.b0MDAfUva
To do this you should have a table that indicates how the you have created the budget with a rough total.

Relevant legal and ethical issues

For this section you need to consider the content of the show as well as the working conditions for cast and crew. Information for the watershed is available via the OFCOM website http://ask.ofcom.org.uk/help/television/watershed
For information about crew working conditions you should look at BECTU https://www.bectu.org.uk/home

Alongside this you should produce contingency plans for any possible issue. You should also explain how you will resolve any relevant legal and ethical issues related to your product.
